Digos City: The Future Eco – Tourism Capital of the South

D I G O S   C I T Y is     strategically located on the western shores of the Davao Gulf and southern foothills of the famous Mt. Apo in Mindanao and is the center city between the  two of the most important cities in Mindanao, Davao City and General Santos City is blessed with various beautiful and unique tourist spots which I believe will help in boosting the local economy of the city.

Here are some of the local eco - tourist spots DigoseƱos are proud of.

Passig Islet

Few minutes away by boat from Barangay Bato Port lies the awesome man - made island, an aqua eco-park resort where tourists go swimming and relaxing together with their loved ones.

 Mt. Apo National Park

Mt. Apo is the famous and is the highest mointain the country with a 2954 meters high.  It’s was taken from the name Apo which means “grandfather of all mountains”.

It was certified inactive and has no recorded of eruptions.

Mt. Apo is one of the popular climbing destinations n the country because its sumit is easy to reach.

Here you can also find thundering waterfalls, rapids, lakes, geysers, sulphur pillars, primeval trees, endangered plant and animal species and a steaming blue lake. Also, there are exotic ferns, carnivorous pitcher plants and the queen of Philippine orchids, the waling-waling.

Virgin Falls

Nature has surprised people by the city’s magnificent Virgin Falls in Barangay Kapatagan.

This nature wonder boast of crystal clear waterfall hidden deep inside the valleys of the mountainous Kapatagan area.  One has to endure some trail hacking down a slippery ravine, towards this waterfall.

Camp Sabros

Situated 3,980 feet above sea level on the cool highlands of Sitio Baras in Kapatagan lies an outdoor adventure camp Camp Sabros.

The camp is surrounded by lush greenery of tall pine trees all across its landscape, and offers a relaxing view of Mount Apo and the surrounding mountain ranges.  Its high elevation makes the weather in Camp Sabros cool all year round.

It was opened in public last December 25, 2007, boasts of two long 380 and 400 meters zip lines called "Slide for Life" at 180 feet above the ground, roughly the height of a five-story building.

These are SOME of the eco – tourist spots where Digos City has to offer.  Given by the support of individuals and promotion from the Department of Tourism, spots in the city will be known.  In the days to come, I will be posting another set of spots to prove this petition.
